Member of Technical Staff - Core Platform
San Francisco, Full-Time
As a Core Platform Engineer, you will build the foundational infrastructure that powers our environment building platform. You will design and implement distributed systems that orchestrate thousands of concurrent simulations, build agents and copilots that help scale environment engineering, and experiment with new environment types that can be automated at scale.
Here are some tasks you might work on:
- Build distributed systems to run thousands of containers in parallel on the cloud with fast with-memory snapshots and recovery
- Design systems that abstract away environment building complexity. This could be small-loop agents, infrastructure mocking, SDK stubbing or other abstractions
- Experiment with new environment types and build systems to generate training data semi-automatically at scale
- Build and experiment with AI agents that can analyze large production codebases and automatically generate hundreds of realistic PRs with varying difficulty levels
- Experiment with and build AI copilots to improve efficiency of various workflows in building environments.
The ideal candidate has experience building products from zero to one and has built large systems that are used at scale. A lot of our work is experimental and new, so you will need to be comfortable running experiments end to end. Our codebase is primarily in Typescript, but occasionally you might need to work with other languages like Python or Rust.
Interview Process
Our interview process is designed to be quick. We usually have 2-3 short technical interviews before an onsite where you work on a small project with our team. You can expect to have an offer within ten days in most cases.
Apply
Before Proximal, our engineering team built critical AI infrastructure at companies like Cursor, OpenAI, Prime Intellect and Browserbase. We are growing extremely fast and are backed by top-tier funds and angel investors from OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI and Thinking Machines.
We're excited to work with smart and creative team members - If you would like to join us, please send your resume to hiring@proximal.so. In your email, tell us about a product you built or worked on before. Share the technical challenges, how you built it, and what you learned doing it (links are appreciated!)
